"Foggy Top" oil on linen - 30x36 © Marc R. Hanson '10
A recent painting finally finished... I think... of a woodland interior. I'm planning a number of these type of large woodland scenes at different times of the year. I really enjoy getting involved in the spots of color that the foliage provides me to paint. And I love to put myself into the scene, wandering around the tree trunks, up into the canopy, along the ground in all of the clutter. Can't do that on an 11x14, you need to open the window up wide and wider is sounding even better to me lately. Thanks for looking.

Spectacular!
This is amazing! I absolutely love it. Your love for the scene is shining through. You've captured a poetry here. Congrats on this magnificent piece!
Wow! Beautiful - love the play between the golds and the grays. That little spot of light is brilliant.
Outstanding painting! We had some fog a few days ago and i did a little study of it. It's surprising how fast it dissipates.
Lovin this piece Marc...stunning
BEAUTIFUL work, you really did a great job capturing the beauty of nature
Hi there Marc! What a masterful rendering of a lit woodland interior... right down to the centre stage "soliloquy! Simply Magnificent Sir!
You and I are presently sharing the same woodland and tree interests! Strange how the Universe works...the same in some respects and yet... in places so far apart!
Good Painting! Happy Holidays to "You" and "Yours" Marc!
Warmest regards,
Bruce
Awesomely Fantabulous!
It makes me feel happy - almost like I was there to enjoy in person:)
What a beautiful interpretation of a fog-covered forest! The light hitting those foreground leaves really takes this painting to another level.
Marc - this painting is really a wonder. I feel being there, myself wandering around in the woods. Anyone with a love of nature will fall in love. I agree the window needs to be wide open for this to have impact. Visual perspective is difficult for me while I am there, but, the color nuances are most important- namely the light. You sure got it with this masterpiece !
Wow! I love it! You are so good at transforming random scenes we often take for granted into beautiful works! The painting brings us closer to the woods. What it evokes is so clear. Wow again.
A truly gorgeous piece Marc
I agree with bruce's comments. It's a masterful rendition. I sit and look at foggy morning landscapes often, trying to paint them in my head. Great job
So beautifully rendered - I want to walk through the woods and hug the trees.
congratulations Mark, you did a wonderful piece of art.
Such a beautiful painting Marc! Can't wait to see the next ones. Big is wonderful!
Wow!
Nartizt... Thank you! :)
Susan I'm happy that comes through. What you're saying brings me satisfaction. If I can do that, I'm doing what I want to do. Thank you.
Thank you Jen. Tough job to edit Mother Nature. There were so many little pieces of brilliance in her scheme that choosing the ones to use made me feel like I was leaving others sitting on the sideline.
Anonymous... yes! I went and did some studies of this location probably 5 years ago. Took photos and am just now able to use them with the memory of the time. Always amazes me how long it takes sometimes for an inspiration to germinate and find it's way out to the linen. Thanks...:)
Jane... Thank you VERY much. :)
Thank you KEH!!!
Bruce...!!! Happy Holidays to you and your family also.
The woods are wonderful material. A little daunting at first... how much to leave in... what to do with it all? I'm finding that once I start to paint, to get the surface covered, these answers start to sort themselves out. I'm also letting these paintings take time to be painted. They don't have to be done in two or three days... I'm letting them rest, putting them into another room, hauling them back out and obliterating or scumbling over areas, knocking it back, bringing it out... the back and forth is energizing and really the only way to add the depth to a scene like an interior woodland environment. Patience... :)
Best to ya...
Marc
Awe... Sharon!!! I'm thrilled at your reaction to it. :) Thank you.
Thank you Sonya... I appreciate your feedback. Marc:)
Suzi... Wow... thank you! I'm encouraged by how you and others have felt what I felt about the 'place' by the painting. How wonderful is that? I sometimes wish that I could play music (learning to now) to evoke the kind of emotion that Music evokes in me... or write a poem or prose and evoke that kind of emotion that I find in it. To hear all of your response to this one makes me realize that it's enough to do what I do best. It's a great feeling of satisfaction to hear what you all have to say. There are things to be improved, I've seen a couple already-), but if I tag the emotional hot points, the technical things that I see that could use improvement become negotiable in my mind.
Thank you Chantal!!! And again... Thank you Chantal! ;-) Seriously... thanks. :)
Thanks Paul! :)
Thanks so much Lynn! Looking is the key.

Todd... Thanks!!! Thanks for the email too. :)
Nailed it! Beautiful.
Really wish I could see it in person... since i can almost smell the forest looking at it here on the screen... Gorgeous colors. Smart to go big I think. Congratulations!!!
You have captured the magic of woods in the fog perfectly. Bravo!
This is wondrous! I love it! This is one of my all time favorite type scenes. You captured a truly magical scene, in a really magical way!
Mark this is outrageously beautiful. Spectacular. Glad I found your blog.
Great job Marc. Talk about "controlled chaos"! I find these types of scenes so intimidating that I usually just avoid them. But I think this one is going to inspire me to give it a try. I like your description of the working process (in the reply to Bruce), need to work on that "patience" thing!
Just beautiful - so mysterious and inviting. Would be great to see in person!
The light dancing among the leaves makes this a really beautiful painting.
Always love your work, Marc.
Ditto what everyone else said. Gorgeous!!!
This is so stunning - I hope you'll consider making prints of it.
I truly love this painting Marc!! It has a magical feeling--like you captured a beautiful and fleeting moment in time. The flicks of light make it sparkle and come to life. Gorgeous Work! Thanks for the inspiration!
