2011 - The 5th Annual Taylors Falls Landscape Workshop
For four years I have been teaching students out of my studio/home here in beautiful and historic Taylors Falls, MN each August. It’s become a tradition, at least for me, to have students come here from all over North America to study landscape painting from life with me. I have enjoyed meeting new friends and painters, seeing the look on the faces of the ‘old pros’ when they discover something new they didn’t know, or the joy of ‘beginners’ when they finish their very ‘first’ painting! These are the results that keep me wanting to teach painters year in and year out.
However, I have a number of students who’ve been in multiple classes who have requested a more ‘advanced’ learning experience. One where we leave the Value Studies and Color Comps (as mandatory exercises) behind, where we dive into the world of painting all day, supplies, materials, technique, business, theory, history, framing, and many of the other topics involved in taking your art a step further along your path to becoming a more complete painter. I agree with them.
So I’m announcing, under the umbrella of the 5th Annual Taylors Falls Workshop…
The 1st Annual Taylors Falls ‘Mentored Experience’!
"Mentoring is a process for the informal transmission of knowledge, and the psychosocial support perceived by the recipient as relevant to work, career, or professional development;mentoring entails informal communication, usually face-to-face and during a sustained period of time, between a person who is perceived to have greater relevant knowledge, wisdom, or experience (the mentor) and a person who is perceived to have less (the protégé)" (Bozeman, Feeney, 2007).
