Esty is a very wise move.
Galleries generally want to be known for selling the major pieces of artists. They can sell the larger more complex paintings, for larger commissions.
Direct sales of smaller works, studies, along with works that have been to galleries already and not connected with the right person, is good marketing on several levels.
Having a wider range of pieces at a wider range of price points opens the market for an artist's work to a wider range of collectors. This widening interest then drives up the value of an artist's major works.
A study for $150 might be ideal for the person who loves your work yet can't afford a $2,000 painting. Also, a study will appreciate over time just as well as a fully executed painting. Who would deny today that a Degas sketch, ébauche or pochade is not worth having?
Be sure to put a link on your blog's Gallery page to your Small Impressions site along with couple works that can currently for sale there.
